Mom Documents Her Son Growing Up For 17 Years And The Result Is Powerful

Wang decided early that the stereotypical image of a single mom and child wouldn’t work for her.

“The Mother As A Creator,” is a touching series created by Annie Wang, an internationally renowned photographer from Taiwan. It portrays the artist and her son in numerous layers as he grows up, and a new visualization of motherhood emerges. The results are downright incredible, and Wang’s son is proud and happy to have grown up with his mother’s incredible artwork.

Specifically, Wang sees motherhood as a long and complex journey, one that solely entails sacrifice and selflessness. She equally sees parallels between her job and motherhood, which she alleged creates new family traditions and requires nurturing through various stages of existence. However, her series has so far touched hearts worldwide, and it fights the stereotypical image of single mom and child. Have a look.

Speaking of the project with Boredpanda, Wang said: “In the world of mothers where everything is hidden, the best way to speak out is through the strategy of self-representation, to express various parts of the self. I, as a woman and a single mom, have tried to actively create my own self, instead of being passively interpreted by a male artist in family portraits, as is traditional.”

The artist further explained that “the mother is like an artist doing her work while calling upon her own wisdom. The mother not only creates life but also creates continually a continuous and fluid matrix of experience between Mother and Child.” Notably, the series sees Wang take a photo of her son and herself yearly, and then the next year, take another in front of the previous.
