Grumpy Cat Dies At The Age Of Seven After Battling With Urinary Infection

Grumpy cat, the cat that became an internet sensation for thanks to her sour expression have died, aged seven.

Known by its owners as Tardar Sauce, she suffered from a urinary tract infection that was’ too tough to endure’.

Grumpy first came to the limelight in September 2012 when her picture was posted on Reddit. Her foul expression would then inspire a generation of internet memes.

While the puss may have had one very pissed off look, her facial expression was actually due to a deformity. However, her look may have been a blessing to her owner, Tabatha Bundesen who is estimated to have earned around $100 million for her kitty’s sour expression.

Grumpy was born with feline dwarfism, a deformity which made her very small as well as giving her an underbite.

A statement from her family said: ‘We are unimaginably heartbroken to announce the loss of our beloved Grumpy Cat. ‘Despite care from top professionals, as well as from her very loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately became too tough for her to overcome. ‘She passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha. ‘Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world – even when times were tough. ‘Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.’

The internet sensation certainly made her owners a good fortune through millions of dollars worth of deals in merchandise, films and books.

Tabatha said that days after pictures of her pet went viral, she quit her job as a waitress. And within two years, she had made over 64 million pounds thanks to her celebrity pet.

While the family has never officially announced how much the tiny cat made in its lifetime, they made sure that her fame was immortalized.

They enlisted the service of Madame Tussauds, who made a waxwork of the tiny creature.

Grumpy even took a long trip to London to see it and as usual, she was unimpressed.

In 2018, at the height of Grumpy’s celebrity status, a controversy struck.

She had just won a $701,000 payout from a coffee company that used her image.

The American company Grenade had made a deal with its owners to use Grumpy’s picture on their products.

Their agreement stipulated that the company only had rights to use the photo to sell its ‘Grumpuccino’ iced drink but then went on to sell other products too.

The Grumpy cat picture went on to appear in T-shirts, and Grenade’s roasted Coffee products which weren’t part of the deal.

After a short battle in court, the jury sided with Grumpy cat, a decision the cat’s lawyer David Jonelis termed as a ‘complete victory’

‘Grumpy Cat feels vindicated and feels the jury reached a just verdict,’ he added.

Grumpy is certainly going to be missed by millions of fans worldwide, Rest in peace, Grumpy.
