Video Of A Thai Monk Goes Viral After Rumors Emerged He’s 163-Year-Old
Fact checks seem impossible since Luang Ta’s birth certificate couldn’t be verified.
Apart from Khaby Lame or Charlie D’Amelio, a new TikTok star seems to be a Buddhist monk from Thailand. Clips of him launched the platform in late February, and he has since gone viral due to rumors he was a staggering 163-Year-Old. However, this isn’t true, and it turns out he’s 109-Year-Old, which is still impressive.

Luang Pho Yai or Luang Ta, as he’s been called by his granddaughter, Auyary KH, is extremely frail and wears a traditional orange monk robe in all videos.

He had made his first appearance when he broke a hip bone, and Auyary documented his condition. But thankfully, he’s been recovering well and can eat and exercise.

He has garnered over 600K followers, but his videos still receive cruel comments due to his age. While a particular clip of Luang lying on a hospital bed with his hand on a child’s head has had over 74million views, Auyary has since responded to one of the many disrespectful comments that called the elderly monk a walking corpse.

Some people have speculated without clear proof that the Thai monk has gone through self-mummification, also known as Shoukushibutsu, amongst Buddhist monks in Japan. This is a method where the monks deliberately dehydrate themselves and adopt a no-fat diet before being buried in a pine box. Inside there, the monks will meditate until their very last days.
