People Send Condolences To The Obama Family During This Difficult Time

He was aged 12 and died of cancer.

Former President Barack Obama and his family have lost a friend and trusted companion, who was a regular, loving presence in their lives for over ten years. The deceased pet, Bo, overcame all the chaos of living in the White House; he had a big bark but no bite.

In April 2009, Massachusetts Senator Edward M. Kennedy and his wife Victoria had sent the first kids, Malia and Sasha Obama, the dog as a gift.

At the time, Bo was only 6-month-old, and his name was in honor of artist Bo Diddley, partly because one of the Obamas relatives had a cat with the same name. Bo was recognized for entering the White House Press corps while playing on the South Lawn & barking during news conferences.

A kid’s book about him had been titled BO, America’s Commander in Leash.

It was authored by Naren Aryal and Danny Moore. Taking to Instagram to share the news of his demise, Michelle Obama said Bo, who was 12 years had cancer. Accordingly, Mr. Obama said on Twitter: “Bo was a regular presence in our lives for more than 10 years – happy to see us on our good day, our horrible days and every day in between.”

He added: “He loved to swim in the pool in the summer, and had great hair. He was calm and collected among kids.”

Bo, the Portuguese water dog, was President Obama’s first pet who loved playing in the presidential suites. In 2013, he was joined by another Portuguese water dog in the White House after Mrs. Obama pointed out that Bo needed more interaction with other dogs. She also alleged at the time that Bo turned out to signify much more to the Obamas than being a buddy to only Malia and Sasha.

According to Miss Obama, the pet entered offices like he owned the place. She described BO as a continuous soothing presence in their life.

Interestingly, Bo attended the popes’ visit and the traditional Easter egg roll on the South Lawn. As Malia and Sasha departed for college, Bo reportedly assisted Mr. & Mrs. Obama to acclimate to life as empty nesters. A post on Instagram signed by “Michelle, Barack, Malia, Sasha, and Sunny read: “Bo was the happiest dog last year when everyone stayed at home due to the pandemic.”

“Everyone was back together under one roof, just like the day we bought him.”

However, the White House was free of pets for decades during President Donald J. Trump’s administration. But as President Biden moved into the White House, he brought along his two German Shepherds named Champ and Major. Just recently, Major has been sent for training following multiple bite incidences.
