Melissa McCarthy Graces The Cover Of People’s 2023 ‘Beautiful Issue’
The actress expressed feeling “incredibly flattered” upon being selected for People magazine’s 2023 Beautiful Issue. She also had a message for her young self, who could never have envisioned where she has reached.
As with being selected for the cover of People magazine’s 2023 “Beautiful Issue” at the age of 52, Melissa McCarthy revealed she was “incredibly flattered”. She made a witty remark that her initial thought was ‘Did my mom and my dad have the 2 main votes?’ The star also had an emotional message for her young self, who never could have imagined attaining the level of success she has reached today.
Being featured on the Beautiful Issue cover, the Bridesmaids actress believes it will strongly play a role in redefining the prevailing beauty norms.
McCarthy noted, “I mean I’m 52, and I just like that we’re kind of redefining what we want to kind of think could be beautiful, could be strong, could be anything. Because I think they’re all wrapped up together now.’’ On a personal level, Melissa admits the honor ‘felt like it was saying something really lovely to my younger self, to my 20-year-old self. Maybe to other people too.’
McCarthy reflected on her teen years, revealing she spent it on a farm and also recalled her punk phase in high school when she had a mohawk and blue hair. She admitted it was at this time that people, including adults, commented on her looks. The actress eventually felt at ease in her skin and embracing her true self only became a reality in her thirties, aided by her husband, a father to her two daughters, Ben Falcone.
The 52-year-old shared that Ben is ’’so constantly loving and kind, and funny.’’ She also humorously added that he is ‘the weirdest human I know.”
McCarthy wants people to accept and love themselves for who they are, noting: ‘When someone’s being their authentic self, and it hurts no one else in the world… The simplest rule is just kind.’ She insisted we should be of acceptance of others even if they are different, adding: ‘Nobody has to think the same things. It’s okay to be curious and be like, ’I don’t understand what someone else is doing.’
The actress concluded by emphasizing the power and importance of love, saying, ‘Loving who you love just puts more love in the world. And that has never, ever been a bad thing.’
