Family Of Nine Opens Up A GoFundMe After Having Their Benefits Slashed

‘We are starting afresh and any help at all will be very much appreciated.’

A family with seven young children has revealed they are struggling to survive after their benefits have been cut. Launching a Gofundme account to ask for help, Ryan Rodgers, 26, and his partner, Jenny Grimes, 25, say they used to receive £2,100 financial support per month, but benefits slash has left their finances ruined.

Specifically, the family receives £669.50 per month, after which the benefit cap and the cost of renting their home are subtracted. But in practice, they would have to survive on £480 a month as their money is now subtracted for the advanced payment they had initially received on moving on to Universal Credit.

The advance payment is regarded as a loan an applicant can be permitted to have in order to cover a 5-week wait before their first payment, but then to be paid off in future weeks.

In view of this, this couple with their children all aged 7 and under are heavily going to rely on food banks, assistance from charities and favors from loved ones. Their situation has gone desperate they reached an agreement to go public about their challenges, pleading for cash donations from strangers via an online fundraising appeal.

The pair 7 children are Tobie and Rylie, 7 months old, Archie, 2, Laysie, 4, Kenzie and Kelsie, 6 and Ellie, 7

‘We’re a young couple with 7 kids trying to get back on our feet after becoming homeless. We are starting afresh and any help at all will be very much appreciated. If you could also point me in the direction of getting some help it will be appreciated as well.’ Ms. Grimes said on GoFundMe.

Acknowledging how shameful it is to ask strangers for donations, the nine families are all living in a three-bedroom property in North Liverpool, paying a total rent of £675.
